Visa Updates for International Students

Due to the worldwide pandemic and global restrictions on travel and immigration, we want to inform you of several things that will help to facilitate your enrollment in our programs this autumn.

If you currently have a visa and are currently in the United States:

If you have not done so already, please log in to the Office of International Affairs I-20/DS-2019 request portal to arrange a SEVIS transfer. You must use your CNet ID and password. If you have forgotten your CNet ID or need assistance with setting up your credentials, please contact IT Services at itservices@uchicago.edu or at 773.702.5800.

If you have already submitted a request for a SEVIS transfer date, but your transfer release date has not been reached, please know the I-20 you requested will be issued within fifteen days of the SEVIS release date of your record from your previous school to the University of Chicago.

If you have not yet arrived in the United States:

The US Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) guidance on incoming international students recommends you remain in your home country and begin your program remotely. We recognize this information may change based on new guidance, and if we receive clarification on this recommendation, we will share it with you immediately. We will offer a full selection of courses that may be taken remotely throughout the Autumn Quarter. Our Office of International Affairs will work with you to update your immigration paperwork so that you can join the program in person in the next quarter you are eligible to enter the US. At this time, we cannot guarantee that students who start the program remotely will be eligible for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) in future terms; however, we are hopeful that this option will become available.

Thank you for your patience as we navigate these continuous updates together and work to finalize your enrollment at the University of Chicago. We will continue to provide updates as they become available.
