David Bunge, Manager of Emergency Preparedness, is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a successful emergency response program function for the distribution system at the ComEd Electrical Utility. Mr.Bunge has over all oversight of several emergency response programs including: staffing, training, exercises, and response. He is responsible for assigning, training, and exercising the approximately 2,000 emergency response staff across 8 teams to maintain a constant state of readiness. ComEd is a unit of Chicago-based Exelon Corporation. ComEd delivers electricity to approximately 4.1 million residential and business customers across northern Illinois, including the City of Chicago, or 70 percent of the state’s population

Prior to working at ComEd, David served as an Emergency Management Coordinator with the DuPage County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. In that role, Mr. Bunge served in several command roles for DuPage County during several presidentially declared disasters such as the 2008 and 2010 Flooding, the 2011 Blizzard, and the H1N1 influenza outbreak in 2009.
David received his Certified Emergency Manager certification from the International Association of Emergency Managers in March 2010 and is certified by FEMA as a Master Exercise Practitioner. David also teaches Emergency Management at William Rainey Harper College in Palatine, IL.
Mr. Bunge holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Valparaiso University and a Masters Degree in Threat and Response Management from the University of Chicago.
