About the Past Event

Many moving into the publishing industry are familiar with the work of manuscript editors, who enhance texts that have already been accepted for publication. But, before manuscript editors come into play, acquisitions editors and developmental editors play key roles in the publishing process. Acquisitions editors are responsible for acquiring, developing, and managing new books and revisions of previously published titles. They collaborate with authors and agents as well as with colleagues who focus on editing, design, production, sales, marketing, and publicity. Developmental editors collaborate with the author to perform content editing, shaping and tightening the narrative of a work. They can help to mold an author’s approach to a piece before a publisher’s review board decides whether to publish.

This December, join editors and Editing certificate instructors Kelli Christiansen and Katherine Faydash as they discuss these two dynamic roles in greater depth. Attendees will gain an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of acquisitions editors and developmental editors as well as become familiar with the day-to-day work required of both of these positions. Register now to secure your spot.
