About the Past Event

With the digitization of critical data and increasing integration of physical and digital systems, managing cyber risk and being prepared to respond to a potential cyber disaster has become imperative for government at all levels. A targeted cyber attack on the nation’s critical infrastructure, for example, could lead to serious consequences beyond the digital realm—loss of life and property as well as the destabilization of systems and networks that underpin our national and economic security. In such a scenario, the emergency manager, though not necessarily a technical expert on cyber, must be prepared to lead the response.

How can emergency managers adapt by reimagining resilience and strategic risk to meet the cyber threat? What emergency management principles and methodologies lend themselves to mitigating cyber risk and how must the field adapt to a rapidly evolving digital environment?

This session will address the emergency manager’s role in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from a cyber disaster.
