Layan Nahlawi, PhD

Layan Nahlawi, PhD is a Senior Scientist in the Neuroscience team at the Genomic Research Center at AbbVie. Dr. Nahlawi is a machine learning expert with a biomedical computing emphasis. Her research interests include pharmacogenomics, imaging genomics, medical image computing and computer-aided diagnostic systems in addition to radiomics. Prior to joining AbbVie, she was a postdoctoral Scholar in the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University, where she worked on local-ancestry based models for transcriptome prediction.

Nahlawi earned a PhD in computer science from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada with research focused on image-guided systems for prostate cancer diagnosis. She published her work in multiple venues including the reputable IEEE transaction in biomedical engineering and the proceedings of the International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention (MICCAI).
