Kali Tal

CEO of Publisher Pro

Kali Tal is the CEO of Publisher Pro, AG and the curriculum designer of the Medical Writing program, Research Support Services, University of Bern Medical Library. Her scientific writing method is taught throughout Switzerland and internationally. Tal has a strongly interdisciplinary background and a broad range of experience as an author, editor, writing coach, and curriculum designer. She received her PhD in American Studies (Sociology/Psychology/Historiography/Semiotics) and is the author of a seminal work in Trauma Studies (Worlds of Hurt: Reading the Literatures of Trauma, Cambridge U Press, 1995) still in wide use today. Tal began working as a freelance editor during her undergraduate years, founded an academic journal in the mid-1980s (Vietnam Generation), and a small academic and literary press in the 1990s (Burning Cities), where she edited non-fiction, fiction, and poetry until taking a full-time position as a Founding Faculty Member at an experimental liberal arts campus of The University of Arizona, where she served as a Professor of the Humanities. When she left the U.S. in 2005, she changed careers and focused entirely on editing, developing her freelance business. In 2011, she began to work as a medical editor and soon developed courses to meet the needs of her clients. Tal was invited to develop a scientific writing program in medicine and the health sciences at the University of Bern’s Medical Library, and she has been leading this effort since 2017. After thoroughly testing her writing method, she decided to share it more broadly and integrated the method into a template-based application that also offers medical and health researchers editing and coaching services, with the goal of raising the quality and increasing the speed of scientific output.
