Veterinarian and Freelance Medical Writer
JoAnna Pendergrass, DVM, is a veterinarian and freelance medical writer in Atlanta, GA. She received her veterinary degree from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and completed a 2-year postdoctoral research fellowship at Emory University’s Yerkes Primate Research Center before beginning her career as a medical writer.
In 2016, Dr. Pendergrass founded JPen Communications, a medical communications company. As a freelance medical writer, she focuses on pet owner education. She has written hundreds of articles on a variety of pet care topics, including nutrition, flea & tick prevention, and senior pet health. Her business mission is to provide pet parents with accurate medical information and empower them to make good health decisions for their pets.
She is a member of the American Medical Writers Association and has served as secretary, president, and immediate past president of AMWA’s Southeast chapter. She also serves on the board of Georgia Bio’s Emerging Leaders Network.
In her spare time, Dr. Pendergrass enjoys reading, spending time with her husband, and serving as principal violist for the Atlanta Musicians’ Orchestra in Atlanta, GA.
