The first two decades of the 21st century have presented a wide array of challenges for the emergency management community. This class will explore traditional and emerging threats including, but not limited to climate adaptation, novel viruses, and cyber-attacks. We will discuss the range of variables that impact them, and how the United States and other countries respond. Examining strategy, policy, and operational constructs, students will determine if today's approach of locally executed, state managed, and federally supported is appropriate structure to meet the emergency management requirements of these threats.
